The Nigerian Senate has said it is yet to receive the official copy of the court judgment that nullified the six-month suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Last Friday, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Senate to reinstate Senator Natasha, describing her suspension as excessive.

Reacting on Sunday, Senate spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, explained that the upper chamber is aware of the judgment but has not been served with the Certified True Copy (CTC).

“Since no party has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, no one can enforce any perceived order or relief,” Adaramodu stated.

He said their lawyers who attended the court session confirmed that the full judgment was not read in open court, adding that they have now applied for the CTC to review and determine their next legal steps.

“Pending receipt and examination of the CTC, and acting on the advice of counsel, the Senate shall refrain from taking any steps that may prejudice its legal position,” Adaramodu said.

He assured that the Senate remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will act in line with the Nigerian Constitution once it fully clarifies the court’s pronouncement.
