Former Senate President and Chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has expressed strong confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will bounce back before the 2027 general elections and reclaim its status as Nigeria’s leading opposition force.

Saraki made this known on Wednesday during a visit to his Ajikobi Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. While acknowledging ongoing defections from the PDP, he noted that the party is also attracting new members from other political platforms.

“Some people may still defect to the APC, but more Nigerians are showing renewed interest in the PDP. We’re gaining new members every day,” he said after revalidating his party membership.

Reconciliation and Restructuring Ahead of 2027

Saraki, a former Kwara State governor, stressed that the PDP remains the most credible opposition party in the country. He revealed that he is actively engaging in reconciliation efforts to rebuild party unity and restore confidence among its members.

“The PDP is still the only viable opposition in Nigeria. Yes, we have our issues, but I’m encouraged by the overwhelming support we’re receiving across the country,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the party recently held a successful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, with another scheduled before the end of June. According to him, the PDP is using this pre-election period to restructure and strengthen its grassroots presence.

“We’re starting early. There’s enough time to reconnect with loyal members, reconcile differences, and rebuild from the ground up. The desire for change is real, and we’re preparing to meet it,” Saraki added.

Public Discontent Driving New Membership

He also revealed that several new members joined the party during his visit to Kwara, attributing the rising interest in the PDP to growing public dissatisfaction with the current government.

“People are registering with the PDP in large numbers because they are tired of insecurity, unemployment, and economic hardship. Nigerians want good governance, and they believe the PDP can deliver it,” he said.

Saraki emphasized that resolving the leadership issues at the national level would positively impact the party’s performance across the states.

“Once we restore stability at the top, the PDP will rise again. Nigerians are watching, and we are committed to presenting a credible alternative,” he assured.

He appreciated the patience and support of Nigerians, reiterating the PDP’s commitment to strengthening democracy and serving as a responsible opposition.

“A functional democracy needs a strong opposition. The PDP is ready to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of the country,” he said.

On the party’s chances in Kwara, Saraki expressed optimism, pointing to growing grassroots support and a renewed willingness among citizens to identify with the PDP.

“People are no longer afraid to show their support for the PDP. That’s a clear sign of hope. With unity and dedication, I’m confident we’ll reclaim Kwara and make significant progress nationally by 2027,” he concluded.
