To mark his 50th birthday, renowned author, banker, and pastor Bayo Adeyinka chose to celebrate by giving back to society. He secured the freedom of eight inmates at the Ikoyi Correctional Center, Lagos, by paying their fines. His gesture aligned with the biblical concept of the Year of Jubilee, which signifies freedom and restoration.
At a brief ceremony in the prison’s Catholic chapel on March 29, 2024, Adeyinka, widely known as “Greater Bayo” online, explained the motivation behind his outreach. He revealed that proceeds from his newly launched books, along with generous contributions from well-wishers, funded the initiative.
“As the Bible teaches, the 50th year is a time of freedom. Therefore, I am honored to facilitate the release of these brothers today as part of my milestone celebration,” he said.
Extending Help Through Medical Support
Beyond securing their release, Adeyinka also addressed healthcare challenges within the prison. To improve inmate welfare, he donated essential medical supplies, including antibiotics, anti-malarial drugs, painkillers, blood boosters, and syringes.
In addition, he extended his support to female inmates at the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre. Recognizing their hygiene needs, he provided sanitary pads for 268 women, ensuring they had adequate supplies for the rest of the year.
A Fresh Start for the Freed Inmates
The grateful inmates and correctional officers expressed deep appreciation for Adeyinka’s intervention. Before departing, he urged the freed individuals to embrace a positive path and “pay the kindness forward.”
To ease their transition back into society, he also gifted each of them ₦20,000 for transportation and basic needs.

Through this initiative, Adeyinka demonstrated his unwavering commitment to faith-driven philanthropy. By combining his religious beliefs with tangible social impact, he continues to inspire hope and transformation in the lives of those who need it most.
