At least 38 people have been killed and several women and children have been abducted during a horror terror attack, according to authorities in Nigeria.

Days before the horrific attack villagers claimed they saw more than 150 motorbikes carrying armed men with weapons and flagged it to security services. However no action was taken.

The horrific attack was launched on Thursday night with bloodshed continuing early into Friday morning as armed men on motorbikes attacked a village located in Nigeria’s north-western Zamfara State. The attack took place in the village of Tungan Dutse and follows numerous similar terror attacks in the country. Abdullahi Sani, 41, said villagers alerted authorities prior to the attack. Sani lost three members of his family in the horrific raid.

The local has spoken of how the loss impacted his community after the attack and said: “No one slept yesterday; we are all in pain.”

Lawmakers in the area have said the group responsible for the attack have been moving from one village to another prior to the attack on Tungan Dutse village. Local legislator Hamisu Faru claimed as many as 50 people lost their lives from the attack.

He added: “The bandits came from Gando forest. They laid siege on Dutse Dan Ajiya and opened indiscriminate fire, killing any resident who tried to flee.”

Another local man, Yazid Abubakar, said on Monday the gunmen also abducted numerous residents. The man stated: “By the time we have our way, the assailants have invaded the community and killed 38 while also abducting many residents.”

The African Union has condemned the brutal attack attack. The organisation released a statement reading: “The African Union unequivocally rejects all acts of terrorism and violent extremism against civilian populations, particularly women and children, as grave violations of human rights and serious threats to peace, security, and stability.”

The development comes after a previous attack in the country after gunmen launched a horrific terror attack – shooting and slicing the throats of at least 46 people. Numerous people were also abducted during the mass shooting as witnesses revealed gunmen fired shots from the back of motorbikes as they terrorised numerous villages.
