2Baba’s ‘African Queen’ Tops Billboard’s Afrobeats List, Natasha Hails Him as Living Legend

Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has once again written his name in history. His timeless hit, African Queen, has been ranked number one on Billboard’s list of the 50 greatest Afrobeats songs of all time.

The American music magazine unveiled the ranking on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, placing the classic track above several international Afrobeats anthems. The recognition further cements 2Baba’s global influence and his unmatched contribution to African music.

Reacting to the news, Natasha Osawaru, the newly married wife of 2Baba, expressed pride in her husband’s achievement. She described him as a living legend who has made Nigeria proud through his artistry and consistency.

 

Her message read:

“Congratulations my husband. Ain’t nobody badder than you. You are a living legend and a blessing to all of us. You’ve made Nigeria proud. I salute you.”

Natasha’s tribute echoed the sentiments of millions of fans who regard 2Baba as one of Africa’s greatest music exports.

Billboard’s list highlighted several other Afrobeats classics that have shaped the global soundscape. Following African Queen at number one were:

Wizkid’s Ojuelegba – 2nd place

Flavour’s Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix) – 3rd place

Rema’s Calm Down – 4th place

Wizkid & Tems’ Essence – 5th place

CKay’s Love Nwantiti – 6th place

D’banj’s Oliver Twist – 7th place

Davido’s Fall – 8th place

Burna Boy’s Ye – 9th place

P-Square’s Chop My Money Remix (feat. Akon) – 10th place

Nigerian Legends Dominate the Rankings

Beyond the top 10, the influence of Nigerian artists continued to shine. Styl-Plus’ Olufunmi ranked 11th, 9ice’s Gongo Aso took 12th place, while P-Square’s Do Me and Davido’s Dami Duro followed closely at 13th and 14th.

Notably, Yemi Alade emerged as the highest-ranked female artist with her breakout hit Johnny securing the 15th spot. Other iconic tracks in the top 20 included Wande Coal’s Bumper to Bumper, Fuse ODG’s Azonto with Itz Tiffany, Sarkodie’s Adonai featuring Castro, and Phyno & Olamide’s Fada Fada.

2Baba: A Legacy Etched in Afrobeats History

With African Queen crowned as the greatest Afrobeats song ever, 2Baba’s legacy as a pioneer and icon is solidified. His wife’s heartfelt tribute reflects the pride of Nigerians who continue to celebrate his global impact.
