2027: Shouting On Your Mandate Won’t Give You Automatic Ticket – Wike to Fubara

The political landscape in Rivers State took a fresh turn on Saturday as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, warned political actors against using the state’s resources for personal gain.

Speaking during his Thank You Visit to local governments in Okirika, Wike specifically cautioned that no one would be allowed to use Rivers State funds to hire voters from the North, East, West, or South in the 2027 elections.

Referring to Governor Sim Fubara, the Minister warned that political actors attempting such tactics would not secure party tickets in 2027.

Wike also addressed those who have recently praised President Bola Tinubu with slogans like “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” saying their support would not guarantee re-election.

“I have said here that all those people who are shouting ‘On Your Mandate,’ it’s good to shout it. We started it in 2023 and we will continue to shout it. You that have joined, it will not give you an automatic ticket,” Wike said.

He further warned against using state funds to influence voters:

“If you like carry our money and hire people from the North, South, West, and East, it’s foul. Look at how all of you suffered in 2023 – You came out to vote for somebody and at the end of the day, look at the payback. Are you foolish people? Are you stupid people? We are not.”

Wike emphasised unity and character in political leadership, urging residents to vote wisely.

“So I want to assure you that we are working together. There is nothing like parties here, it’s the renewed Hope family,” he said.

He also praised President Tinubu for keeping his agreements, adding:

“Mr President has kept to his own agreement, and that is why you must vote for people who have character. You must vote for people so that you can go home and sleep with your two eyes closed.

“We made a mistake, but we won’t kill ourselves. We will correct the mistake this time around.”
