A broad national coalition has announced plans to rally support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group targets 20 million signatures to back his second-term bid.
The coalition includes civil society organisations, professional bodies, labour unions, artisans, and grassroots networks. It says over 1,500 groups are already involved across different sectors.
The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) leads the initiative.
COCSON National Secretary, Tabuko Kennedy, said the coalition will hold a major convention on May 17, 2026. He described it as a historic gathering of diverse interest groups.
He said the event will serve as a formal platform to declare support for Tinubu’s re-election.
Kennedy said the 20 million signature campaign aims to show strong grassroots backing. He added that it reflects support across regions, professions, and social groups.
He also said mobilisation has started in several states. Coordinators are already engaging communities, youth groups, and trade associations.
Multi-sector participation
According to him, the coalition will draw participants from human rights groups, health and legal professionals, labour leaders, and artisan unions. Community-based organisations will also take part.
He said the effort combines physical outreach and digital mobilisation to meet the target before the election season.
