The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Hon. Muhammad Bello Goronyo, has declared the party’s intention to return to power both in Sokoto and at the national level in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the party’s quarterly strategic meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat, Goronyo addressed a gathering of state and local executives, former officeholders, and zonal representatives. The meeting, he said, was a vital part of ongoing efforts to reassess the party’s performance and fine-tune its strategies for future victories.

“This gathering is about unity, reflection, and preparation,” Goronyo stated. “We’re not just reviewing our journey so far, we’re mapping out a clear path to reclaim what was lost.”

PDP Rejects Merger Rumours, Stands by Legacy

Dispelling speculations about a possible rebranding or merger, Goronyo reaffirmed the PDP’s identity and resilience. “We are not changing who we are. The PDP is the last surviving legacy party from 1998. We remain a grassroots-driven movement, and we’ll stand strong under our name.”

APC-Led Government Accused of Misrule

The PDP chairman launched a scathing critique of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in the state, accusing it of neglect, policy failure, and a disregard for the people’s welfare.

“Governance has taken a nosedive since the PDP left office. This administration is anti-people,” he said. “They demolish small businesses, ignore job creation, and have only worsened the plight of ordinary citizens.”

Goronyo also painted a grim picture of local government finances, claiming a total lack of development across the state’s 23 local councils. “For two years, there have been no tangible projects. They talk about saving money, yet struggle to pay salaries when federal allocations are delayed.”

PDP Eyes 2027 Victory with Renewed Strategy

Addressing national concerns, he challenged the federal government’s narrative on improved security. “There are daily incidents of killings and kidnappings. The government’s response has been weak and ineffective. Security is a constitutional duty, and they are failing at it.”

Despite internal and external obstacles, Goronyo expressed confidence in the PDP’s resurgence. “We are not folding our arms. We are mobilising, sensitising our members, and strengthening our base. By God’s grace, the PDP will bounce back stronger in 2027, in Sokoto and across Nigeria.”
