Sanwo-Olu Approves Career Advancement for Diploma Holders in Local Government Administration

Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu has approved Local Government Diploma Advancement, recognizing the Diploma Certificates in Local Government Administration for career progression. The Lagos State University (LASU) and the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) jointly coordinate the programme.

Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, announced the approval during a working visit to Somolu Local Government.

Bayewu assured council staff that the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to staff growth. He stated, “With this new development, no local government staff should remain stagnant. We are doing everything possible to improve your welfare.”

He also addressed the delays in pension payments. According to him, many retirees fail to submit key service documents before leaving service. “Let me be clear,” he said. “Submit all required documents before retirement to avoid unnecessary delays.”

Bayewu advised managers to train their subordinates regularly. He stressed that continuous learning builds better officers for the present and the future.

Bayewu commended the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul-Hammed Salawu ‘Dullar’, for prioritizing staff welfare. The council’s Secretary, Hon. Dele Afolabi, represented him at the event.

The commendation highlighted several initiatives,provision of staff buses, timely payment of bonuses, regular training sessions, and a safe working environment.

Bayewu expressed hope that the next chairman would sustain these efforts and continue improving staff conditions.

 

Key Officials Attend Working Visit

Several top officials attended the event. These include:

Hakeem Adisa Bamgbola (Commissioner, Lagos Division)

Taofik Adaranijo (Member, Ikeja Division)

Ahmed Seriki (Member, Epe Division)

Mrs. Olawunmi Dada (Director of Establishment, representing PS Establishment and Training, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun)

Mrs. Adebola Ajayi (Director of Admin and HR, representing PS Local Government Commission, Mrs. Abosede George)

Also present were Mr. Peter Abiodun Babington (Council Manager, Somolu LGA), Olusegun Akinyemi (Director of Public Affairs), Sanitarian Hafeez Ogunbekun (Director of Waste Management), and Olufemi Giwa (Head of Budget and Planning).

Others in attendance included Mr. Muftau Oyefolu (Human Resources Officer), Mr. Abayomi Odusanya (Council Treasurer), Dr. Bidemi Agboola (Medical Officer of Health), and Comrade Waheed Bello (NULGE Chairman), alongside other top officials from the commission and the local government.
