Nalin Haley, son of former U.S. ambassador and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, officially joined the Catholic Church on Palm Sunday. The 23-year-old completed the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), received his first Holy Communion, and was confirmed during a ceremony at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Indian Land, South Carolina.

Father Jeffrey Kirby, who led the service, shared a congratulatory message on social media: “Congratulations to William Nalin Peter, who was received into the fullness of the Christian faith today! Welcome home, Nalin!”

Haley Celebrates Son’s Faith Journey

Nikki Haley expressed her joy in a heartfelt social media post. “Michael and I always prayed that our children would have a faith and relationship with God,” she wrote. “Today we were so proud to support Nalin in his faith journey.”

Haley, who was raised in the Sikh tradition, converted to Christianity after marrying her husband, Michael, in 1996. She was baptized in a Methodist church but has also attended Baptist congregations. In a 2012 interview, she said their family chose Christianity for the values they wanted to live by and pass on to their children.

Nalin’s Role on the Campaign Trail

Nalin graduated from Villanova University in 2024. The Catholic university provided a faith-based environment that may have influenced his spiritual path. Throughout his mother’s 2024 presidential campaign, he stood out for his dedication and visible presence. His sister, Rena, 26, currently works as a pediatric nurse.

What’s Next for Nikki Haley?

Although Haley ended her campaign without securing the GOP nomination, she broke ground as the first Indian American in a U.S. presidential cabinet and the first female Republican to win a primary. She now holds the Walter P. Stern Chair at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C.

Political analysts believe she may be positioning herself for a 2028 run. Her strong fundraising record, grassroots support, and willingness to challenge Donald Trump have drawn comparisons to Ronald Reagan.

However, she may face tough competition. JD Vance, the current vice president and a fellow Catholic convert, is considered a leading contender for the Republican ticket in 2028.
