The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has scheduled its Anambra State governorship primary for Saturday, April 5, 2025. The event will take place at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, according to an official statement signed by Ifeanyi Mbaeri, the party’s National Organizing Secretary and Secretary of the 2025 Electoral Committee.
Electoral Committee Appointed to Oversee Exercise
To ensure a smooth and transparent process, APGA’s National Working Committee has appointed a five-member electoral committee led by Chief Uche Nwegbo, the Deputy National Chairman (South). The committee will be responsible for supervising all aspects of the primary.
The accreditation of delegates and observers will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and end by 12 noon. The exercise will be conducted outside the primary venue, on the tarred road leading to the New Government House.
“Only individuals in queue before noon will be accredited,” the statement warned.
Delegates and observers are required to present valid means of identification, such as a National ID card, international passport, voter’s card, or other government-issued documents. Wearing official tags around the neck will be compulsory throughout the event.
Seating arrangements inside the venue will be organized by Local Government Areas, with clearly marked stands. All elected officials who are delegates must sit with their respective LGAs. Observers will also have a separate designated section.
Voting Process: Ballot System and Alphabetical Order
Voting will be conducted through secret balloting, with delegates expected to tick either “YES” or “NO” on their ballot papers. The voting process will proceed in alphabetical order by LGA. After voting, the ballots will be sorted, counted, and results declared by the electoral committee.
The party emphasized that the entire exercise will strictly follow the provisions of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC regulations on party primaries. Full compliance is expected from all delegates and observers.
Political Stakes High Ahead of 2025 Governorship Race
The outcome of Saturday’s primary is expected to significantly influence the political direction in Anambra State as parties gear up for the 2025 governorship election. All eyes will be on APGA as it selects its flagbearer in what promises to be a high-stakes contest.
