APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has pledged to push for Diaspora voting in the 2027 general elections. He made the promise during the inauguration of the APC France Chapter’s new executive in Paris.
Ganduje said the party will work closely with the National Assembly to make Diaspora voting a reality. He described it as long overdue and urged an end to using it as a mere campaign promise.
Ganduje urged Nigerians abroad to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda. He admitted the reforms are tough but called them necessary for rebuilding the economy.
“President Tinubu is taking bold steps. These decisions are difficult, but they will reposition the nation,” he said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu.
He praised APC members abroad for expanding the party’s reach and actively recruiting new supporters.
Unity and Growth in APC
Ganduje said the APC remains united, unlike many opposition parties facing internal crises. He noted that this unity has attracted new members from other parties, including senators and lawmakers.
“We are seeing a wave of defections. People trust our stability and leadership,” he added.
He also cited recent meetings of the APC National Executive Committee, which passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu.
The new APC France Chairlady, Hajjiya Amina Musa Baba Suzuki, highlighted the political power of Nigerians abroad. She noted that the Diaspora contributes more than just remittances.
“We are not only investors. We are thought leaders and ambassadors of Nigerian democracy,” she said.
She called on the APC to support Diaspora chapters and recognize their influence. “We serve as vital links between Nigeria and its people abroad,” she said. “Our chapters act as soft-power diplomats and advocates.”
Suzuki urged Ganduje and the APC leadership to deliver on Diaspora voting. She said the time for action is now.
“Under your leadership, we believe it can happen. This goal is both possible and necessary,” she said. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Prominent guests at the event included Prof. Hafsat Ganduje, APC National Women Leader Dr. Mary Alile, European APC Chair Hon. Tunde Doherty, and Yoruba monarch in France, Oba Aderounmu Bamidele Sadiq.
