Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has assured elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government chairmen and councillors in the state that their wait to resume duties at their respective council secretariats will soon be over.
The governor gave the assurance on Thursday during a Ramadan lecture and special prayer organised by the Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in support of his second-term re-election bid.
It will be recalled that in February 2025, after swearing in the elected local government officials, Adeleke directed them to stay away from council secretariats across the state to avert a possible breakdown of law and order.
Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, the governor commended the officials for their patience and continued confidence in his leadership.
Adeleke acknowledged their sacrifices, patience, and leadership in guiding party supporters and loyalists across the various local government areas in the state.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Osun ALGON, Sarafadeen Awotunde, appreciated supporters of the council chairmen across the state for their steadfastness since 2025.
According to Awotunde, “We members of Osun ALGON remain committed members of the Peoples Democratic Party and we fully support the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.”
He also urged all aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections to mobilise voters massively for Adeleke in the forthcoming August 15 governorship election, noting that his victory would lay a solid foundation for the party’s future electoral success.
In his Ramadan lecture, Islamic scholar Abdullahi Olorunlomoerue advised the elected council officials to see the challenges they are facing as a test from Allah.
He urged them to remain patient and continue showing kindness and empathy to their supporters despite not yet resuming office.
