PDP Set to Release Congress Timetable Soon — Caretaker Chair

The National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abdulrahman Mohammed, has said that the party will soon release a timetable for outstanding congresses in some states as part of moves to organise a seamless national convention.

Mohammed disclosed this on Monday during a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the party held in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Mohammed and posted on X by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, on X on Monday.

Addressing party leaders, the caretaker chairman said the Christmas and New Year holidays were over and that it was time for the committee to fully focus on its mandate of repositioning the PDP.

“Christmas and New Year break is over. It is high time to focus on the mandate given to us as Caretaker Committee members to put our party on the right track,” he said.

He added that the committee deliberately waited for the festive period to end before commencing decisive actions.

“We have initially waited for the holidays to be over and now is the time for action.

“Your Excellencies, you are aware of the declaratory judgment by the Ibadan High Court in our favour. The law is simple and unambiguous and we shall continue to pursue justice for our great Party.

“Any moment from now, we shall roll out our timetable for activities that have to do with outstanding Congresses in some states that will usher in a seamless National Convention,” he stated.

Mohammed expressed appreciation to members of the BoT for their support, describing it as critical to the success of the caretaker committee.

“I want to appreciate our BoT Chairman, the Secretary and all members for your genuine support to the National Caretaker Committee under my leadership. We cannot take your support for granted,” he said, adding that the committee recognised the “burdens you carry and your firm commitment to the party.”

He also thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, whom he described as a leader of the party, for standing by the PDP.

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our leader, the FCT Minister, for standing by us at all times,” he said.

On the party’s internal legal disputes, the PDP chairman said the party had secured a favourable declaratory judgment from the Ibadan High Court and would continue to pursue justice.

“You are aware of the declaratory judgment by the Ibadan High Court in our favour. The law is simple and unambiguous and we shall continue to pursue justice for our great party,” Mohammed said.

He revealed that preparations were ongoing to conclude pending congresses in some states, which he said would pave the way for a smooth national convention.

“Any moment from now, we shall roll out our timetable for activities that have to do with outstanding congresses in some states that will usher in a seamless national convention,” he said.

Mohammed reaffirmed the PDP’s status as a national party with enduring structures and legacy, warning against complacency among stakeholders.

“The Peoples Democratic Party remains the only party that is built and centred on people with structures, national coherence, and verifiable legacies. We cannot afford for this party to sleep in our hands.

“Finally, we must recognise and appreciate all stakeholders of our party who have continued to give us unwavering support in these defining times. God bless you all!” he said.

The PDP has been grappling with internal leadership disputes that led to the appointment of a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs pending the conduct of congresses and a national convention.
