Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has warned that the NNPP will defy expectations in Kano during the 2027 elections. The former NNPP presidential candidate said opponents should brace for a major shock at the polls.
Speaking to supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano, Kwankwaso said those dismissing NNPP as weak fail to understand the realities of Nigerian politics.
“A lot of people underrate us because they don’t know politics,” he said. “Some even call us children. We will shock them with the election results.”
The two-term Kano governor urged party supporters to remain loyal and focused as the elections draw closer.
Meanwhile, NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima denied claims that Kwankwaso plans to leave the party. He confirmed to LEADERSHIP that the former minister remains the national leader and a full member of NNPP.
“He is still our leader and has not resigned,” Galadima said. “There is no way he can join another party at this time.”
Former Kano NNPP chairman Hashimu Dungurawa also dismissed defection rumours, describing the rift between Governor Abba Yusuf and Kwankwaso as troubling. He alleged that Yusuf betrayed a decades-long trust.
“He was guided and supported for 43 years,” Dungurawa said. “The leader never complained about him until he became governor.” He added that opportunists around the governor are trying to weaken NNPP in Kano.
Dungurawa affirmed his commitment to NNPP, praising the party for his political growth. “I have no regrets joining or staying in NNPP. I continue to pray for the party’s success ahead of 2027,” he said.
Despite internal tensions, Kwankwaso’s influence in Kano remains strong. Dungurawa cited NNPP’s landslide victories in past elections as evidence of the party leader’s enduring popularity.
“The people of Kano believe in Kwankwaso. Wherever he goes politically, they are likely to follow,” he said.
As the 2027 elections approach, NNPP leaders remain confident that the party will stay united and maintain its inclusive approach.
