Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the 2026 governorship election.
He secured 145 votes while five were voided in a primary conducted at the Oasis Event Centre, Osogbo.
Abdulazeez Salahudeen, secretary of the primary committee of the Accord Party, stated that five delegates were drawn from each of the 30 local government areas of the state.
Accepting the nomination, Adeleke emphasised that his track record and the widespread goodwill among the populace will ensure victory for the Accord Party in the upcoming 2026 elections.
He unveiled an upgraded five-point agenda for his campaign, which includes: integrated citizens’ and workers’ welfare; infrastructure consolidation for economic prosperity; increased agro-industrial expansion for youth empowerment; innovations for health, education and social care; and an improved business environment for job creation.
“We are today launching the battle for continuity of progress, good governance and democratic dividends. My candidacy signifies the continuation of a golden movement where development continues to shine across our state. We vow never to relent in rewarding service to our people,” he said.
He articulated a commitment to modernisation and progress, rejecting a return to the “dark days” of past governance. “Osun has faced failed promises for too long. In the last three years, we have fulfilled the yearnings and aspirations of our people. Ours is a government of action,” he declared.
Adeleke challenged potential opponents to run on their records, questioning their performance while in power. “In their days, what were their deliverables? What legacies did they leave? Today, the people have rejected them, including their own party members,” he asserted.
He proudly cited his administration’s achievements, including how Osun moved from 33rd to 7th place in national examinations under his leadership. Adeleke also noted significant reductions in infrastructure deficits and improvements in healthcare access.
“Our governance shows that effective leadership can serve the people’s needs. I am committed to meeting the aspirations of our citizens,” he continued. “The 2026 race is not just about our records; we are bringing innovations to elevate our people to new levels of development.”
The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, who presented Adeleke with the certificate of return, praised the primary election as a testament to the party’s commitment to due process and internal democracy.
He expressed confidence that Adeleke will achieve a resounding victory in the upcoming elections.
