President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to coordinate the rollout of Nigeria’s new tax regime scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.

The approval was announced on Friday in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the committee will be chaired by the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe. It is tasked with ensuring the seamless execution of the administration’s sweeping tax reforms in line with the government’s broader economic goals.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will provide supervisory oversight, while the President’s Special Adviser on Finance and Economy, Sanyade Okoli, will serve as secretary to the committee. Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several stakeholders from relevant sectors.

The committee is expected to conduct wide-ranging consultations with both public and private sector players to guarantee inclusive input into the implementation process.

President Tinubu said the successful execution of the new Tax Acts is key to Nigeria’s economic transformation and vital for strengthening public finance management while protecting the interests of investors and productive sectors.

He noted that the new tax laws reflect his administration’s drive toward a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that promotes growth and balances the interests of citizens and businesses.

“The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee will ensure coordinated, effective, and harmonised implementation across all tiers of government,” the President said.

The NTPIC’s responsibilities also include nationwide stakeholder engagements, public sensitisation campaigns, and close collaboration among revenue and regulatory agencies. It will align existing frameworks with the new laws and ensure unified oversight and reporting throughout the transition period.
