The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has “surrendered” to terrorists, describing the opposition’s remarks as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the APC said the PDP’s comments reflect “intellectual laziness” and an attempt to remain relevant. The ruling party argued that recent security gains, including the rescue of the Eruku 38, show that the government is taking decisive action against criminal groups.

The APC accused the PDP of exploiting insecurity for political advantage, insisting that measures such as the temporary closure of schools were strategic steps to protect children, not signs of weakness. It added that the opposition would rather “expose pupils to danger” than acknowledge ongoing security operations.

According to the statement, President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment by cancelling a foreign trip to directly oversee rescue efforts and by initiating reforms across the defence sector. The APC said these actions reflect determination to secure the country and prevent a return to the “helplessness” it claims marked previous PDP administrations.

The party further questioned the PDP’s credibility on security issues, pointing to the rise of Boko Haram, loss of territory to insurgents, ransom negotiations, and mass abductions recorded during the party’s 16 years in power.

Oladejo said the rescue of the Eruku 38 “shattered the opposition’s narrative” and proved that coordinated intelligence operations are yielding results. He argued that the PDP’s criticism of Tinubu’s cancelled foreign trip showed “mindlessness,” adding that taking direct charge of national security is an act of leadership.

He said only a party that treated governance “like beer-parlour gossip” would trivialise such decisions, insisting that the ongoing security efforts highlight the difference between “coordinated leadership and years of excuses.”
