Fidelity Bank Plc has extended a helping hand to residents of Lagos’ Makoko waterfront community through the donation of boats, educational resources, food items, and other essential supplies.

The initiative was carried out by the Achievers Inductees Class of 2025 under the bank’s staff-driven corporate social responsibility platform, the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP). The programme empowers staff to identify community needs, raise funds, and receive matching support from management to implement impactful projects.

Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to community development. “We believe that thriving communities create thriving businesses. Our efforts extend beyond banking to supporting education, improving livelihoods, and fostering growth. This donation reflects our dedication to building a sustainable future for the next generation,” he said.

The traditional ruler of Makoko, Baale Shemede Emmanuel Ajakaekun, expressed gratitude for the support. “We are thankful to Fidelity Bank for coming to our aid. We hope this partnership continues and that they return to support our community again,” he remarked.

Shemede Taiwo, Proprietor of Part of Solution Orphanage, Nursery and Primary School, also praised the bank’s intervention. “Many children here face difficulties attending school due to the high cost of boats. Fidelity Bank’s contribution will ensure safer school commutes and improve the welfare of residents. We deeply appreciate this support,” Taiwo said.

The FHHP programme has previously supported other vulnerable communities, including an outreach to Old People’s Home in Yaba, Lagos, demonstrating Fidelity Bank’s consistent engagement in education, health, and welfare initiatives.

Fidelity Bank Plc, serving over 9.1 million customers through 255 offices across Nigeria and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited, has received numerous awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BAFI, Most Innovative Mobile Banking App award for Fidelity Mobile App by Global Business Outlook, and recognition as Best Bank for SMEs by Euromoney Awards for Excellence.
