A High Court in Oyo State has cleared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its national convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Justice A. L. Akintola issued the ruling on Monday, following an ex parte motion filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi. The court’s decision effectively nullifies an earlier order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had temporarily halted the planned convention.

The Abuja court, in a ruling delivered on October 31, 2025, had restrained the PDP from holding its convention, citing alleged irregularities in its preparations.

The upcoming convention is expected to produce new national officers for the opposition party and chart a fresh course ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the process has faced internal challenges. Three party members—Austin Nwachukwu, the Imo PDP chairman; Amah Nnanna, the Abia PDP chairman; and Turnah George, the South-South PDP secretary—filed a suit accusing the party leadership of violating its constitution in the run-up to the event.

They claimed the planned convention breached both the PDP constitution and the Electoral Act, urging the court to restrain the leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from overseeing the exercise.

Justice Akintola’s ruling, however, now paves the way for the PDP to continue its preparations for the crucial Ibadan gathering.
