Wike Challenges Obi to Compare Anambra Record with FCT Achievements

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dared Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to showcase his achievements during his eight-year tenure as governor of Anambra State and compare them with his own performance in just two years as FCT minister.

Wike issued the challenge on Thursday while commissioning a road project in Abuja. His comments came in response to Obi’s recent criticism of the deplorable state of public schools in the FCT. During a visit to LEA Primary School, Kapwa, Obi had described the poor condition of the facility as a “national disgrace” that reflects Nigeria’s weak commitment to education.

Reacting, Wike accused Obi of failing to improve Anambra State during his administration, alleging that the former governor did not invest the state’s resources for the benefit of its people.

“When he was governor for eight years, did he develop the entire Anambra? His name is Peter Obi. That’s why his successors have been struggling,” Wike said.

The minister also dismissed Obi’s criticisms as political, saying, “There is one social media man who calls himself a presidential candidate. He went to a school in FCT and said we didn’t provide toilets. Imagine. He plays politics with everything.”

Wike further mocked Obi’s leadership, claiming he could not even manage his political party effectively. “Someone who cannot manage a political party as a presidential candidate is talking about managing a complex country like Nigeria. He will remain a social media president,” Wike added.
