Police Constable Ukasha Muhammed was shot dead by military personnel in Bauchi State on October 10, 2025, prompting an urgent investigation. Authorities have urged both security personnel and the public to remain calm.
According to CSP Ahmed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Command, the patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila encountered an attack on Constable Muhammed around 10:35 p.m. in the Bayan Gari area, in front of Padimo Hotel. While one suspect escaped, the team quickly apprehended another.
The detained suspect is Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), a soldier with the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Haven in Jos, Plateau State.
Shortly after, at about 11:05 p.m., two more soldiers, Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654), arrived on the scene. They wore partial military uniforms and carried rifles. Reports indicate they fired at Constable Muhammed, hitting him in the left chest before fleeing.
Paramedics rushed the constable to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, but doctors confirmed his death. Authorities have deposited his remains at the hospital mortuary.
CSP Wakil added that police have taken Yahuza and Gabriel into custody. Moreover, the Command has assigned a dedicated team of homicide investigators to handle the case. The Commissioner also ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
This incident follows a similar attack in August, when a Police Inspector attached to the Mobile Police Unit (MOPOL) was shot dead by a soldier in Futuk, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, Captain Atang Hallet Solomon, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 33 Artillery Brigade, confirmed the shooting to Channels Television. He said the Army will form a team to investigate the incident but could not share further details.
