ADC Slams Tinubu Over Rising Insecurity
FacebookSTwitterLinkedinWhatsAppTelegram

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of turning a blind eye to Nigeria’s worsening security situation, alleging that citizens are “under attack” while the presidency focuses on political outings.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party condemned what it described as the president’s “brazen insensitivity” to the ongoing killings, kidnappings, and displacements across the country.

The ADC faulted President Tinubu for attending social functions and funerals involving political allies instead of prioritizing urgent security challenges in states such as Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, and Zamfara.

“President Tinubu’s continued preference for attending social and political events in the midst of alarming deterioration of internal security is both unacceptable and irresponsible,” the statement read.

Party Dismisses Tinubu’s Unity Message as ‘Empty Rhetoric’

The opposition party dismissed the president’s recent comments in Jos about uniting Nigerians, calling them “empty political rhetoric” inconsistent with his actions since assuming office.

According to the ADC, the federal government’s “vague assurances of progress” mock the harsh realities faced by citizens. It cited the closure of schools in parts of the North and reports of communities forced to pay ransom to bandits as evidence of government failure.

The party urged the administration to acknowledge the severity of the crisis, engage directly with affected communities, strengthen joint security operations, and create a transparent system to track security expenditures.

“Nigeria is under attack. This administration must stop pretending otherwise. The lives of Nigerians must matter more than soundbites and ceremonies,” Abdullahi added.
