President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic passing of Ms. Somtochukwu ‘Sommie’ Maduagwu, a talented news anchor with Arise News Television, who was killed during a robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Ms. Maduagwu’s family, the management and staff of Arise News Television, and the entire Nigerian media community. He also urged security agencies to apprehend the robbers.
President Tinubu said: “Ms. Maduagwu was a promising journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner. Security and law enforcement agencies must conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.”
While consoling the bereaved family, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to protecting all citizens. He emphasized that the government will continue to strengthen measures against crime in all its forms, according to a presidency statement.
The President’s wife, Oluremi Tinubu, also mourned the late journalist in a brief statement: “I woke up to the sad news of the untimely death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, one of our young and brilliant minds in journalism. Her death is painful and deeply unfortunate. She has been cut down in her prime.”
She added: “I extend my condolences to Chief Nduka Obaigbena, her family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. I pray that the perpetrators are apprehended quickly and brought to justice. May her soul rest in peace, and may God grant her family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
