The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Ogini Olaposi, has clarified that any plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) are those of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya Movement, not the party.

Olaposi made the statement on Monday in Lagos, emphasizing the distinction.

Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, announced on Saturday that he and his supporters plan to join the ruling APC. However, he cautioned that no one should use his political movement merely to secure electoral victories and then abandon it.

Responding, Olaposi said Kwankwaso’s declaration confirmed that he and his followers are no longer part of the NNPP.

“At last, we feel vindicated. Any party must negotiate with Kwankwaso in his personal capacity,” Olaposi stated.

He added, “Our party will now focus on its internal affairs after the Movement’s resistance, which led to their expulsion for anti-party activities. NNPP holds no animosity toward the ruling party, and any decision to form an alliance with the APC, or any other party, ahead of the 2027 general elections will be made collectively by all members. For now, our priority is stabilizing the party nationwide following the crises and litigation caused by Kwankwaso and his supporters.”
