Barcelona bounced back strongly with a 6-0 win over Valencia at Estadi Johan Cruyff, keeping pace with La Liga leaders Real Madrid. Their next test comes against in-form Getafe, who have also started the season well under Jose Bordalás.
Djene Dakonam Hails Barcelona
Getafe captain Djene Dakonam, central to his team’s early success, spoke highly of Barcelona ahead of Sunday’s clash.
“Barcelona have a very strong squad and can rotate players, and the ones coming in are good. Barcelona is one of the best teams in the world,” Djene said.
Despite acknowledging Barça’s strength, he stressed Getafe’s determination:
“We’re going to face Barcelona with good players, and we have to compete to win. We’re a family, no one here gives up, starting with the coach. Step by step, game by game, we’ll try to give the best version of ourselves.”
Focus on Team Spirit
The defender also downplayed any potential advantage from Barcelona’s tight schedule, insisting Getafe must rely on their unity and work ethic.
“Praise weakens us. We have to keep improving, keep adding points, and we’ll see where we end up.”
On playing at Estadi Johan Cruyff instead of Camp Nou, Djene simply stated the team’s focus is on representing the club with pride.
Fitness Update
Djene also clarified why he was subbed off against Real Oviedo:
“It was the accumulation of matches. I played two full games for my national team, had to travel, and then caught a slight fever. That’s why I asked to be changed.”
