New details have emerged regarding a recent private meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

According to TRIBUNE ONLINE, the discussion focused on the state of the nation and strategies for addressing key challenges, among other pressing issues. The meeting forms part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Peter Obi, who shared information about the visit on his X account, confirmed he was accompanied by Yunusa Tanko, spokesperson of the Labour Party presidential campaign council; Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate; and Segun Adebanjo.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, described the gathering as a meeting of “like minds” concentrated on Nigeria’s development.

“It was a meeting of like minds. Peter Obi served under Chief Obasanjo’s leadership, so it was important for them to sit together and discuss ways to rescue the country,” Tanko said.

Tanko also highlighted that the discussion emphasized the significance of Nigerians exercising their voting rights. When asked whether Peter Obi had declared his intention to run for president in 2027, Tanko stated, “That is a public declaration. When the time comes, everybody will be informed accordingly.”

Attempts to reach former President Obasanjo for comment were unsuccessful. One of his aides noted, “It was a closed-door meeting. You can call the Peter Obi people to give you more details.”
