The Qatar Ministry of Interior has rolled out stricter visa requirements for Nigerian travellers, citing an increase in overstay incidents by visitors from Nigeria.

The new policy, which took effect immediately, has changed both eligibility and application procedures for Nigerian citizens seeking tourist or transit visas.

According to a recent advisory from TravelTank, the measures are part of Qatar’s wider effort to prevent misuse of its immigration system. The Ministry emphasized that all applicants must meet the updated rules before officials consider their requests.

Key Changes in Qatar’s Visa Policy

1. Mandatory Return Transfer

Travellers must now provide proof of a confirmed return transfer together with their hotel reservation. This ensures that visitors have clear plans to leave Qatar at the end of their stay.

2. Restricted Eligibility

Only women and families can apply for tourist or transit visas. Qatar will no longer accept single male applicants unless they travel with their families.

3. 5-Star Hotel Booking Requirement

Applicants must book accommodation exclusively in 5-star hotels. Qatar said the move aims to ensure that only genuine tourists with verified lodging are allowed entry.

Impact on Nigerian Travellers

The revised rules apply not only to new applicants but also to all pending visa approvals. TravelTank confirmed that Nigerians who already applied under the old system may face disruptions to their travel plans.

The development has raised concern among Nigerian travellers, especially solo male applicants who may now be excluded from visiting Qatar unless accompanied by their families.
