Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviving local government councils across the state despite political and financial challenges.

Speaking at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday, Adeleke alleged that rivals were deliberately obstructing progress. He stressed that their actions aim to frustrate his administration’s achievements. Moreover, he argued that Osun people support his government’s reforms and will resist attempts to drag the state backward.

Revenue Allocations and Leadership Dispute

The crisis in Osun’s local government system continues to deepen. Statutory council allocations remain suspended, and grassroots activities have stalled since February 17, 2025.
The dispute stems from a prolonged tussle between the PDP and the APC. While the APC relies on a February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated October 2022 council officials, the PDP insists that the February 22, 2025, elections produced the legitimate leaders.

Governor’s Determination to Restore Councils

Adeleke compared the obstacles facing his administration to the Biblical “Pharaoh.” He pledged not to allow Osun to fall into what he described as “bad governance.”
“We will get our local governments running again,” Adeleke declared. “Our reforms shocked them. They want to hold us back, but we will keep moving forward.”

Mobilizing Voters for 2026 Election

Meanwhile, the governor urged PDP members to mobilize residents for the Continuous Voter Registration exercise. He emphasized that active participation would play a vital role in the 2026 governorship election. Therefore, he encouraged every eligible citizen to register and vote.
