His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, inaugurated the Renewed Hope Mother and Childcare Hospital in Ugbuwangwe on August 19. The event marked a major highlight of his fourth coronation anniversary. Moreover, it reinforced his reign’s dedication to inclusive growth, compassion, and social welfare.

Modern Healthcare for Mothers and Children

The Presidency, through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulure, delivered the 80-bed hospital. With strong backing from the Warri monarch, the facility strengthens the kingdom’s healthcare network. In addition, the hospital provides specialized care for mothers and children, giving families access to modern and reliable medical services.

The commissioning drew dignitaries and traditional leaders. The Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Ejiro. During the ceremony, His Majesty expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing the health of Warri people. Furthermore, he described the hospital as a milestone in the kingdom’s pursuit of stronger healthcare and socio-economic progress.

“This hospital is not just a structure,” a palace spokesperson noted. “It shows our responsibility to protect mothers and children. Above all, it reflects the Olu’s vision of development that touches every aspect of life.”

Meanwhile, anniversary activities continued at the palace. Children participated in an Itsekiri Language Contest, thrilling the audience with storytelling, poetry, and spoken word in their native tongue. Consequently, winners received prizes, reinforcing the throne’s mission to inspire the younger generation to preserve and promote their language.

Later in the evening, excitement filled the palace grounds with a novelty football match. Nigeria’s Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medalists played alongside respected chiefs and energetic youths. As a result, thousands of supporters cheered, celebrating both sporting excellence and community unity.

Festivities Continue on the River

Today, the celebrations move to the Warri River for the traditional Regatta. Therefore, residents and visitors will witness a spectacular showcase of the kingdom’s maritime culture, further strengthening pride in Itsekiri heritage.
