The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for launching premature re-election campaigns for President Bola Tinubu.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Wednesday. He claimed the ruling party is more focused on political propaganda than solving urgent national problems.

INEC Warnings Ignored

Earlier this week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned political parties to halt campaign activities. According to INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the commission has not released a timetable for the 2027 elections.

Campaigning remains illegal until 150 days before the general polls. Despite this warning, the APC has continued with public rallies and erected billboards endorsing Tinubu’s second term.

Abdullahi said the APC is more interested in mounting campaign billboards than fixing the country’s collapsing economy. He cited examples of pro-Tinubu billboards in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Minna, Kano, and Akure.

“Inflation is rising. The naira has crashed. Petrol prices have tripled. Kidnapping is rampant. Yet, APC is chanting ‘four more years’,” Abdullahi stated.

The ADC said inflation rose from 22% in 2023 to almost 35% by December. The naira dropped from N461 to over N1,500 per dollar, destroying savings and businesses. Petrol prices jumped from N185 to over N1,000 per litre after fuel subsidy removal.

On insecurity, Abdullahi noted that between April and June 2025, 122 security agents and 1,865 civilians were killed. Over 3,100 deaths were recorded in three months. He added that over 50 people were recently kidnapped in Zamfara State.

“Instead of solving real problems, the APC is filling cities with campaign posters,” he said.

Power Sector Failing, Rights Declining

The ADC also criticised the repeated collapse of the national power grid. It said Nigeria’s rankings on corruption and press freedom are worsening. The government, it claimed, is using public funds to hire digital propagandists rather than addressing real issues.

“The administration has replaced governance with illusion,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC demanded the immediate removal of all campaign billboards promoting President Tinubu. It called the campaign structure “unlawful” and urged the APC to shift its focus back to Nigerians’ real needs.

“Until the campaign window opens, every billboard is illegal,” the statement read. “Respect the law. Fix inflation. End insecurity. Rescue the naira. Repair public infrastructure.”
