The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly dismissed rumours that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, plans to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party described such a move as highly unlikely and politically unwise.

Speaking on Prime Time, a current affairs programme on Arise Television, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi addressed the speculation directly. Abdullahi, a former PDP member and ex-Minister of Youth and Sports, insisted that Obi plays a central role in the opposition alliance forming ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Let me be clear, Peter Obi is part of the coalition,” Abdullahi said. “No matter what people are saying. Interestingly, the PDP only began to respond after the ADC stepped forward. However, everyone knows the ruling party has significant control over the PDP’s direction. Obi understands the risk involved in returning there and won’t take that chance.”

Jerry Gana Praises Obi as a Beacon of Hope

Abdullahi’s comments follow recent remarks by Professor Jerry Gana, a founding PDP figure and former Minister of Information. Gana commended Obi’s leadership, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most credible and visionary politicians.

In an interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT), Gana called Obi “a symbol of hope” and a strong force for responsible governance.

“Peter Obi stands out as one of the most principled leaders in this country,” Gana stated. “He is disciplined, prudent, and truly committed to Nigeria’s progress. That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need to build a united opposition.”

Gana also emphasized that defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 will require broad collaboration. According to him, no single party can win on its own without credible leaders working together.
