Ebonyi State is currently experiencing a wave of administrative tension as Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the suspension of 85 senior government officials.
A statement issued Monday night and signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, revealed that those affected include the Attorney General, 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants.
The suspension was reportedly due to their failure to attend a critical state function. The statement noted that the suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month—during which no salaries will be paid.
The list of suspended commissioners includes those overseeing key ministries such as Justice, Works, Finance, Information, Rural Development, Education, Agriculture, Water Resources, Commerce and Industry, Environment, Health, and Arts and Culture.
Governor Nwifuru also directed that the affected officials are barred from signing any official documents throughout the duration of the suspension.
