Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has refuted claims made in a viral video that listed her among Nigerian celebrities allegedly living with HIV.
Naija News reports that the actress responded after a content creator, Olaoluwa Segun, published a video naming five actors he falsely claimed were HIV positive, including Amusa and Hanks Anuku.
Reacting via Instagram, Amusa expressed shock at her inclusion in the video, firmly stating that she is HIV negative.
She explained that in 2019, she shared a post to raise awareness about HIV, encouraging people to know their status and seek help when necessary. However, Segun misrepresented the old post years later without verifying the facts.
Amusa criticised the spread of such damaging misinformation without evidence, demanding that Segun provide proof of any hospital or laboratory that confirmed her status.
“I’m not going to let this slide. I will make you a scapegoat. Not because I enjoy it, but so it serves as a lesson to you and other irresponsible content creators and bloggers. If you must make a headline, verify and ask questions before putting people on the spot,” she said.
In response, Segun issued a public apology, admitting the video was false. He clarified that although Amusa once spoke about HIV on television, she never claimed to be positive. He accepted full responsibility, confirmed the video had been removed, and promised to improve his content creation process to prevent similar incidents in the future.
