Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of destroying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with his presidential ambition.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday, Olayinka reacted to Atiku’s announcement of his resignation from the PDP, which took effect on Monday, July 14. The former presidential candidate cited irreconcilable crises within the party, describing his exit as “heartbreaking.”
Olayinka criticised Atiku for abandoning the party after allegedly contributing to its decline. He urged the former Vice President not to return once other members have worked to rebuild the PDP.
“Today, PDP has been so destroyed and damaged by this one man, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Olayinka said. “He is now gone. When committed members of the PDP come together to rebuild the party, Atiku Abubakar should not come back after failing in his new political journey, because he is going to fail.”
He added that while the PDP must begin to reorganise itself, this is not solely to prepare for the 2027 elections.
