Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International Magazine, Dele Momodu, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just hours after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar formally left the party.

In his resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, Momodu, who was once a presidential aspirant under the party, cited the takeover of the PDP by what he described as “antidemocratic forces.”

He stated that his decision to quit the party was necessary to uphold democratic ideals, adding that it was better to leave what he called the “carcass” of the PDP to its hijackers.

“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect,” he wrote.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.

“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” he concluded.
