A youth group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned that Peter Obi’s reported plan to exit the ADC coalition if he fails to secure its presidential ticket could ruin his political career.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Comrade Abayomi Bello of the ADC Youth Vanguard, the group described the alleged move as unwise.

“We doubt Mr. Tanko truly has Peter Obi’s mandate to make such declarations,” the statement read.

“Mr. Obi has built a strong reputation as a leader driven by principle, youth empowerment, and national interest.”

The group argued that leaving the coalition for personal ambition would contradict the values Obi is known for.

They also reminded Nigerians of Obi’s history of switching parties, from APGA to PDP, then to the Labour Party, and now potentially leaving the ADC. Such frequent moves, they warned, could make the public view him as a typical politician focused only on personal gain.

“Coalitions demand patience, teamwork, and sacrifice,” they noted.

The group warned that an early exit could erode his supporters’ trust, weaken political alliances, and disappoint young Nigerians who already feel let down by a fragmented opposition.

They urged Obi to remain within the coalition and provide leadership from within.

“He should mentor young leaders, help shape the party’s future, and build a lasting legacy. That is how enduring political legacies are built. Anything else risks leading him into political isolation,” the group concluded.
