President Bola Tinubu has set up an inter-ministerial committee to organise the state funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was announced in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The SGF, George Akume, will chair the 17-member committee, which includes several ministers, the National Security Adviser, and the Inspector General of Police.

Mr Buhari is expected to be buried on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, after his remains are returned from London, where he died at the age of 82 on Sunday.

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday and is expected to accompany the late president’s body back to Nigeria.

According to Mr Imohiosen’s statement, President Tinubu also directed that condolence registers be opened in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for members of the public to pay their respects.

“In honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, President Tinubu has directed all MDAs to open condolence registers at the entrance of their offices for public tribute,” the statement read.

Additionally, condolence registers will be opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja for the diplomatic community and the public.

12. National Security Adviser

13. Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination

14. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters

15. Inspector General of Police

16. Director-General, DSS

17. Chief of Defence Staff

 

The Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, will serve as the committee’s secretariat.

Further updates on the burial arrangements will be provided in the coming days.
