Distributes Food Packs and Mattresses to Victims of Yelwata Attacks

Fidelity Bank Plc has extended relief to over 2,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Ultra-Modern International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi, Benue State. The bank, in partnership with the Abbasid Charity Foundation, distributed food packs, mattresses, and essential relief items to victims of the recent Yelwata attacks.

This intervention is part of the bank’s flagship Fidelity Food Bank initiative, which has delivered more than 200,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones since its launch in April 2023.

Speaking during the distribution, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

“The Fidelity Food Bank initiative continues to alleviate poverty and malnutrition across the country. We are honoured to return to Benue State to provide relief and comfort to these displaced families during such difficult times,” he stated.

Also speaking, Mrs. Hawa Abbas, Executive Officer of the Abbasid Charity Foundation, noted that the donation of mattresses aimed to restore dignity to the displaced, ensuring they no longer sleep on bare floors.

“This is our way of letting them know they are not forgotten. We care deeply about their welfare,” she said.

The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. James Iorpuu, represented by Camp Manager Mr. Robert Nyom, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and Abbasid Foundation for their timely intervention, saying it has brought much-needed relief to the camp.

The bank’s outreach in Benue follows similar interventions, including food distribution to over 1,500 residents affected by floods in Mokwa, Niger State.

Fidelity Bank Plc serves over 9.1 million customers through its digital banking channels, 255 business offices in Nigeria, and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited. The bank has earned multiple awards in 2024, including Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking by BusinessDay BAFI Awards and Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application by Global Business Outlook.
