Nigeria Customs Raises Alarm Over Fake July CBT Recruitment Shortlist

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned Nigerians to disregard a fake press release circulating on social media, claiming that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) shortlist for its recruitment has been released for July 2025.

In an official statement on Sunday, the Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, described the document as “fraudulent and misleading,” stating clearly that it did not come from Customs.

“The NCS categorically states that the said press release is fake and did not emanate from the Service. At no point did we announce any CBT scheduled for July 2025,” Maiwada said.

He noted that the fake document contained obvious errors, including poor formatting and an electronic signature that does not match the Customs Service’s authentic format.

Maiwada also explained that the recruitment timeline mentioned in the forged document does not align with any genuine NCS recruitment process.

Beware of Fake News

The NCS emphasised that all authentic recruitment information will only be published on its official website, verified social media platforms, and recognised national newspapers.

It added that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the fake news and bring those behind it to book.

“We deeply appreciate the vigilance of concerned Nigerians. The Service remains committed to transparency and will notify the public through appropriate channels when the next phase of recruitment begins,” the statement added.

In December 2024, the Nigeria Customs Service opened applications to recruit officers into its Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. This followed its approval to recruit 3,927 officers in 2025 to boost trade facilitation and economic recovery.

The NCS has repeatedly warned Nigerians to beware of fraudsters seeking to take advantage of the recruitment process to scam unsuspecting applicants.
