South African star Tyla owned the spotlight at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards with style, energy, and grace.

Tyla stepped into the global spotlight as she hosted the awards show for the first time. The event took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Years ago, she had auditioned for Nickelodeon. Now, she stood centre stage as the main host.
“It’s unbelievable how things come full circle,” she said before the show. “I just hope I only get a little drizzle of slime.”

That wish didn’t come true — but she took it like a champ.

Tyla opened the night with a dance-packed celebration of summer hits. Benny Blanco handled the music. Dancers filled the stage, and Smurfette even popped in for a surprise. The show pulsed with joy and movement from start to finish.

Midway through the night, Tyla was named Favourite Global Music Star. The audience erupted. Visibly moved, she said:
“This means the world to me — to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all you amazing kids out there… wow.”
She beat nominees from six other regions, including the UK and Europe.

With this win, she added to an already growing list of accolades — including a Grammy and MTV EMA.

Tyla brought vintage style back with five bold outfit changes. She wore a sunset-toned mini dress from Cavalli’s 2006 collection to kick things off. On the orange carpet, she rocked denim shorts. She later changed into a cobalt blue polo dress by Berlin label Sia Arnika. The message on the dress read: “THE PEOPLE WANT MORE.”

For the grand finale, she appeared in a denim shirt layered over a black tee that said: “WE WANNA PARTY.” The tee didn’t survive the slime.

The Iconic Slime Moment

Right before the signature green slime hit, Tyla looked up and smiled.
“Just do it,” she said. Seconds later, she was drenched.

Laughing and soaked, she closed the night with these words:
“Literally, this has been so fun. I’m so happy I came to party with you guys. This was the best party ever.”
