Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent wave of violence that has claimed over 50 lives across Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi states.

Atiku, in a statement on Saturday, described the incidents as a “devastating blow to our collective conscience,” stressing that Nigeria must stop normalizing such bloodshed. He urged leaders to prioritize human lives over politics.

The tragedies include:

A suicide bombing in Borno that killed 24.

An attack on wedding guests in Plateau that left 12 dead.

Renewed violence in Mangu and Bokkos claiming 15 more lives.

A bomb blast in Kano killing five.

A bandit raid in Kebbi that ended in 30 fatalities.

“The heartbreaking reports are more than statistics — they’re shattered families and stolen dreams,” Atiku said, expressing sympathy to the victims’ families.

He also criticized what he called government silence in the face of ongoing killings and warned that history will not be kind to leaders who “choose power over people.”

This comes after his earlier remarks in April accusing the Tinubu administration of presiding over a collapsed security system.

Calls for action are mounting, with Borno’s Governor Zulum and groups like Amnesty International demanding urgent reforms and justice for victims.
