Femi Soneye has officially stepped down as the spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited after serving for 20 months.

In a statement on Saturday, Soneye expressed deep gratitude to the media and Nigerians for their support, professionalism, and commitment in promoting the NNPC brand during his time in office.

He noted that his decision to resign as the Chief Corporate Communications Officer was driven by a desire to focus on his family and personal responsibilities that now demand more of his presence.

“It has been a profound honour to serve the Company and our country. I’m thankful for the trust and opportunities I received, and for the amazing people I worked with,” he said.

Soneye added that he would continue to support NNPC as an ambassador, urging media colleagues to maintain balanced and constructive reporting.

His resignation comes three months after President Bola Tinubu reshuffled the NNPC leadership, appointing Bayo Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) to replace Mele Kyari. Ahmadu Musa Kida was also named non-executive chairman, succeeding Pius Akinyelure.

Tinubu further appointed six non-executive directors across the geopolitical zones:

Bello Rabiu (North-West)

Yusuf Usman (North-East)

Babs Omotowa (North-Central)

Austin Avuru (South-South)

David Ige (South-West)

Henry Obih (South-East)

Additionally, Lydia Shehu Jafiya (Ministry of Finance) and Aminu Said Ahmed (Ministry of Petroleum Resources) joined the board as representatives from their ministries.
