Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has declared that unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election would be nearly impossible without a united political coalition.

Speaking as a guest on the Guest of the Month programme aired by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan, Momodu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed deep dissatisfaction with the internal crisis plaguing the main opposition party.

“My soul has left the PDP; only my body remains,” Momodu said, lamenting the party’s internal sabotage and weakened structure. He warned that without urgent reforms and genuine unity, the PDP might fail to mount a serious challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the APC is deeply worried about the PDP’s potential to upstage it in 2027, hence the deliberate efforts to keep the opposition divided.

“The APC is jittery because it knows the PDP remains its strongest challenger. That’s why there’s a deliberate plan to keep the party fragmented,” he stated.

Momodu further accused the ruling party of employing infiltration and manipulation to destabilize the PDP from within, claiming some party members are complicit in this agenda.

“Sadly, some of our own members are playing into the APC’s hands. But as a law-abiding party, we must handle internal matters according to due process,” he said.

Looking ahead to 2027, Momodu stressed that even a united PDP may not be enough to defeat Tinubu without strategic alliances and smart political calculations.

“It is almost impossible to remove President Tinubu without a formidable coalition. The opposition must not only unite but also pick a candidate from a region that contrasts sharply with the president’s political base,” he advised.

His remarks come amid rising political tension and growing speculation about potential alliances as the 2027 election draws closer.
