Ugandan-British model Eva Apio has shut down rumours linking her to Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake. She firmly denied ever dating the singer, ending months of speculation.
The buzz resurfaced on Sunday after a photo of them in Paris went viral. In the image, the duo wore matching outfits, sparking claims they were in a relationship. An X user captioned the post: “Asake and his girlfriend, Eva Apio.”
The post quickly caught fire online. Fans who had long suspected a romance shared mixed reactions.
But Apio wasted no time clearing the air. Responding to the viral post, she wrote, “I was never his girlfriend.”
Dating rumours began in March 2025. The pair appeared together at Paris Fashion Week, dressed in matching Marine Serre outfits. Their coordinated look and close interaction sparked talk of a possible romance.
Fans pointed to more clues. Apio had used Asake’s song Why Love in her Instagram videos. Many of her posts also received likes from the singer.
Despite these signs, neither of them spoke, until now.
Apio has faced similar rumours in the past. She dated Power star Michael Rainey Jr. between 2019 and 2020. She also dated American footballer Owen Otasowie from 2020 to 2021.
In 2020, fans linked her to Davido, but she clarified the truth. She had only dated his associate, Tycoone.
Asake, meanwhile, keeps his love life private. He was previously linked to American socialite Madame Mystiquee (Isha Sankoh). They reportedly split in 2024.
In January 2025, Asake was also rumoured to be dating model India Love. She later stated their interaction was only professional and related to a music video.
Despite the renewed attention, Asake has not responded to Apio’s recent denial.
Eva Apio is more than a trending name. She founded the Eva Apio Foundation and has walked for top fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Off-White, Burberry, and ASOS.
She has also explored DJing and acting. Recently, she featured in Off The Grid, a film project by rapper P. Diddy.
Apio gained a large following in Nigeria during the COVID-19 lockdown. Her Instagram Live sessions with Father DMW, a Davido Music Worldwide affiliate, drew thousands of viewers.
With her recent statement, Apio may have finally closed the chapter on rumours with Asake, at least for now.
