Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has firmly rejected claims linking him to a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). As the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), he described the rumours as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a post shared on his verified X handle, @KwankwasoRM, the former Kano State governor addressed the rumours head-on. He clarified that he has not engaged in any talks to return to the APC or join another political party.

According to Kwankwaso, the statements circulating online falsely represent his position on recent political realignments. He emphasized that these claims aim to confuse the public and lack any factual basis.

Moreover, Kwankwaso explained that he deliberately avoids commenting on ongoing political developments. He encouraged Nigerians to disregard unofficial reports spreading on social media platforms.

“At this time, I have chosen not to discuss political events,” he added, “and I urge the public to trust only verified statements from my official handles and trusted sources.”

Apology from Author of False Statement

The need for this clarification arose after a viral message claimed Kwankwaso met with President Bola Tinubu and was preparing to return to the APC. This message gained rapid traction online, sparking fresh debates about political shifts ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the situation changed when Ibrahim Rabiu, the supposed author of the message, publicly apologised. He admitted he fabricated the statement without Kwankwaso’s knowledge or approval.

“I never had the authority to issue any statement on behalf of Senator Kwankwaso,” Rabiu confessed. “I sincerely apologise for acting irresponsibly after being misled by false information.”

Describing his action as immature, Rabiu promised to avoid such mischief in the future. “I ask for forgiveness and commit to being more responsible moving forward,” he said.

Kwankwaso’s response arrives amid growing political speculation across Nigeria. As preparations for the 2027 elections gain momentum, political actors continue repositioning themselves for the battles ahead.

With many observers watching closely, Kwankwaso has made his stance clear: he remains committed to transparency and urges Nigerians to stay cautious of misinformation.
