The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed reports claiming the appointment of Senator Ugochukwu Uba and Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as members of its National Working Committee (NWC). The party clarified that neither Uba nor Gombe holds any membership or leadership role within its structure.
Media reports had earlier claimed Uba was appointed National Deputy Chairman (South) and Gombe as Deputy National Chairman (North). The SDP, however, described the reports as false and misleading. The party accused those behind the claims of trying to stir confusion ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chief Arinze Ekelem, the SDP’s National Vice Chairman (South East), issued a statement rejecting the claim involving Senator Uba. He said the NWC never discussed or approved any such appointment during its May 15, 2025, meeting in Abuja.
“The South East zone of the SDP completely rejects the false report. Uba is not a card-carrying member of our party. He cannot hold any leadership position,” Ekelem said.
He urged party members and the public to ignore the misinformation. Ekelem also reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty to Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the SDP National Chairman. He praised Gabam’s performance during the 2023 elections and promised continued support from the South East.
The Gombe State SDP also denied the appointment claim involving Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe. Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, the acting state chairman, said Gombe is not registered in any SDP ward across the state.
“The claim is a fabrication and a clear act of political fraud. Our checks with the national secretariat confirm no such appointment happened,” Modibbo said.
He warned against impersonation and attempts to hijack the party through false claims. The chapter emphasized its commitment to due process and internal democracy.
National Chairman Vows to Expose Culprits
Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the party’s national chairman, condemned the false claims. He called the development a deliberate plot to destabilize the party. Gabam promised to expose those behind the false narrative.
He also assured party members of SDP’s preparedness for upcoming elections. Gabam cited ongoing reforms and grassroots mobilisation as proof of the party’s growing strength and credibility.
