The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its unity and renewed its mission to “rescue Nigeria from APC’s failures.” Party leaders also launched disciplinary action against former National Chairman Julius Abure.

In a press release, Acting National Chairman Senator Nenadi Esther Usman and Acting National Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha declared their full commitment to transparency and internal democracy. They said the party remains focused on integrity and transformation.

The LP leadership applauded the Supreme Court for its judgment that removed Abure from office. However, they criticized his actions after the ruling, accusing him of impersonation and spreading division.

“We must confront Mr. Abure’s divisive actions and manipulative tactics that threaten our party’s unity and public image,” they stated.

The National Executive Council (NEC) initiated disciplinary steps against Abure. He now has 48 hours to respond and explain why he should not face sanctions. The party also formed an investigative committee to review the allegations against him.

NEC warned Abure to stop parading himself as the party’s chairman. They urged him to address allegations of forgery, corruption, perjury, and conspiracy.

Party Backs Obi, Otti and Labour Movement

In a show of support, NEC passed a vote of confidence in Governor Alex Otti, Mr. Peter Obi, and Labour Party lawmakers at both national and state levels. They also apologized to Obi and Otti for derogatory remarks made by the suspended chairman.

“We tender an unreserved apology to Mr. Peter Obi and Governor Otti for the irresponsible comments made by Mr. Abure,” the party said.

The leadership also released a timeline of the leadership crisis. They highlighted the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld the caretaker committee and nullified Abure’s cross-appeal.

Justice John Inyang Okoro declared:

“The decisions of the lower courts recognizing Julius Abure as National Chairman are hereby set aside.”

Looking ahead, the party plans a nationwide membership registration and revalidation. These efforts will lead to ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, and eventually, a National Convention.

The Labour Party called on all members to unite and support the current leadership. They urged Nigerians to join the party’s mission to transform the nation.

“The Labour Party stands united, disciplined, and reinvigorated. We are fully committed to building a true platform for national transformation.”
