The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Sunday presented 22 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to first-class and second-class traditional rulers in Kaduna State.

The ceremony took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna. It was attended by Governor Uba Sani and other top government officials.

Fulfilling a Promise to Strengthen Traditional Institutions

Hon. Abbas, who holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau, said the donation fulfilled a promise he made to Governor Uba Sani last year. He explained that the gesture was part of his ongoing commitment to empower traditional institutions across the state.

“This is a historic day,” he stated. “It reflects the collaboration between the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and the Kaduna State Government.”

He added that Sunday’s event marked the second phase of the initiative. During Ramadan, the first phase saw the distribution of six brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers in Zaria.

The Speaker recalled how Governor Sani had urged him to begin charitable efforts in his home state. He said both leaders agreed on the urgent need to support traditional institutions facing serious challenges.

Hon. Abbas assured the audience that his interventions in Kaduna would continue. He also sought the governor’s support in extending the initiative to other parts of the state.

He revealed that the ongoing constitutional amendment process would explore ways to strengthen the role of traditional rulers nationwide.

“The National Assembly will do everything possible to give traditional rulers a more defined role,” he promised.

To back this commitment, the House has already created a dedicated committee on traditional institutions. The committee is led by Hon. Abdulmumini Ari Muhammad.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sani for their consistent support of traditional institutions.

In his remarks, Governor Uba Sani praised the Speaker’s efforts. He pledged continued collaboration with the National Assembly to support Kaduna’s development. The governor also encouraged traditional rulers to use the vehicles wisely to foster peace and unity in their communities.
