Video: Hilda Baci hits 100hrs surpassing Guinness World Record in longest cooking session by an individual
It has been a whirlwind of emotions since Monday night as Hilda Bassey (Baci) Effiong finally hits the 100hrs benchmark she set for herself to break the Guinness World Record for the longest ever cooking session by an individual.
The current longest cooking record is held by Indian chef Lata Tondon, who set a time of 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.
Hilda Bassey, a chef in the mega city of Lagos, has captivated the country with her marathon cooking, which started on Thursday and ended on Monday night.
The chef, known on social media as Hilda Baci, started cooking on Thursday and continued until Monday – creating more than 55 recipes and over 100 meals designed to showcase the best of Nigerian cuisine in the marathon kitchen session.
President Muhammadu Buhari and several politicians and celebrities congratulated Bassey, while cheering supporters camped outside an events centre to witness the 27-year-old chef preparing a mix of local and foreign dishes, from jollof rice to pasta.
Celebrities including musician, Tiwa Savage and local politicians visited Bassey during the cooking challenge.
Bassey’s time will need to be certified by Guinness World Record officials before it can be made official.
Vondigest understands that the Guinness world record committee still has to confirm that all their criteria have been met and whether Bassey will become the record holder.
